I've always been a fan of the Manga, and the new series is being based completely of the manga storyline. This had be hooked, so i waited nervously for the first episode. The new series features better artwork that resembles Arakawa's style more closely than the last series. There is more humour, especially Ed transmuting a spear-head into his face.

There is a new soundtrack, which admittedly, at times doesn't work greatly, but with some getting used too, i'm sure it will grow on me. Overall, i feel this series is a fantastic reboot, and is verging on turning Fullmetal Alchemist into the series it should always have been.

The Hama Uprising
In 1982, Hama was the scene of the bloodiest episode of Syria's modern history. The city had become the focus for opposition to President Assad's regime, an opposition led by an extremist Islamic movement called the Muslim Brotherhood, which was intent on replacing the secular , modernist ideology of Assad's ruling Baathist regime with strict Islamic rule. The Brotherhood had been waging a bloody campaign of terrorism targeted at members of Assad's Alawi sect and at the foundations of the state for several years, carrying out numerous bombings and assasinations, including the murder of at least 32 Alawi officer cadets in a bomb attack on the Aleppo Artillery School in 1979. Assad responded to this threat to his authority with increasing brutality and to many it seemed that the country was on the brink of civil war.The showdown finally came in February 1982, when an army unit was ambushed while patrolling the narrow souks of Hama's Old City. The Brotherhood quickly put out a call for a general uprising in the city. The government response, led by Assad's brother Rifa'at, was swift, although the scale of the response shocked even those who understood the full implications of the showdown. As Patrick Seale comments in his book Assad; The Struggle for the Middle East: 'Hama was a last-ditch battle which one side of the other had to win and which, one way of the other, would decide the fate of the country. Some such understanding that this was the final act of a long drawn-out struggle may serve to explain the terrible savegery of the punishment inflicted on the city.'An all-out battle ensued, which was to last for three weeks and devastate the city, leaving much of it flattened and thousands of its inhabitants dead (the site of the Apamee Cham Palace Hotel, for example, was once a densely populated area of narrow streets and souks). The only westerner to offer an eye-witness account of the events in Hama was the reporter Robert Fisk, who arrived on the outskirts of the city in a taxi with a couple of soldiers who had asked for a lift back to their units: 'It had been burning for a long time; a dense cloud of brown and grey smoke was streaming up from the walls and the narrow laneways beyond the Orontes. Parked on the banks of the Orontes was a line of Syrian T62 tanks, part of Rifaat's collection of armour from Damascus.
